Moneygall 1 - Rearcross 'A' 1
Rearcross trekked to Moneygall for this league encounter and grabbed a last minute equalizer to earn a share of the spoils, the home side did the early attacking and threatened with back to back efforts in side the first three minutes, the poor start continued from a Rearcross side that paid the price after eight minutes of play with Billy Hayes seized the opportunity to bundle the ball to the net from inside the six yard box. The visitors started to come in to the game after this and a Diarmuid Sheehy effort was headed just wide off the target by a well positioned James Gough in the 17th minute. Rearcross came close again midway through the half, this time James Gough linked up with Declan O’Toole who was unlucky to see his effort pull to the left of the upright. Moneygall also had their moments and it took a telling tackle from Simon Kennedy to avert the danger in the 29th minute, Rearcross made a strong finish and Anthony Ryan set up Nigel Ryan, however the ball didn’t fall to kindly and the chance went a begging.
Rearcross showed a greater urgency in the second half and might have gone ahead in the 14th minute when PJ McLoughlin did well to squirm in to a good scoring position with the resulting effort shaving the crossbar. The exchanges were evenly shared for most of the second half although Rearcross had claims for a penalty turned down midway through the half, Sean Sheehy was also to the fore for Rearcross making two vital saves towards the end of the game, however a last minute surge from Rearcross saw the ball break to Emmet Steed and blasted to the back of the net to salvage a point for Rearcross on the day.
