Rearcross 'B' 1 - Noreside Celtic 1
Rearcross B picked up only their 2nd point of the season last Sunday morning with a 1- 1 home draw against fellow strugglers Noreside Celtic. Rearcross began the brighter and Joey Nolan forced a fine save out of the Noreside keeper and Aidan Walsh followed up on the rebound however he could not keep his shot down. An excellent 30 yard shot from Paul Murphy looked to be destined to open the scoring however his effort struck the cross bar and went wide. Rearcross took the lead midway through the opening half when they won a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. Adrian Hurley’s initial effort rebounded off the wall but Paul Murphy was on hand to fire a shot home which crept past the Noreside keeper. Noreside drew level 10 minutes later after they were awarded a penalty after their striker was upended in the penalty area. David Hewson stepped up to dispatch the ball to the corner to leave the sides level at the break. Rearcross were lucky not to concede a second penalty 10 minutes into the second half when Noreside had strong appeals for handball waved away. They threatened once more moments later with a shot from 20 yards however Ger Kennedy got down smartly to tip the ball around the post. Rearcross responded with another Paul Murphy effort which again clipped the crossbar before going over. The chances were few and fair between in the closing stages as both defences were on top and both sides were limited to long distance shots. In the end, each side had to settle for a share of the spoils as they finished all square.
