Rearcross 1 - Moneygall 'A' 6
Rearcross tumbled to a 6-1 defeat against Moneygall 'A' last Sunday morning at Rearcross FC Grounds in this bottom of the table clash in the Premier Division League. Moneygall made the early running and went ahead in the sixth minute when Tom Deveraux was on hand to knock the ball between the posts from close range. The visitors attacked again minutes later and Sean Sheehy was alert with his first touch of the game that produced a fine save. PJ McLoughlin's lobbed effort on 12 minutes looked menacing, however the Moneygall custodian collected on the second attempt. Darragh Egan shot wide of the Rearcross post midway through the half and then PJ McLoughlin got on the end of John Ryan Luke's free kick and was unlucky to see his effort whiz away from the Moneygall goal. The home side got back level on the 25 minute mark when Andy Murphy swung in the cross from the left to the in running Sean Mullins who let fly with a rasping shot that ricocheted off the woodwork before finishing in the net. Moneygall restored their lead two minutes later when Eamon McCormack's free kick from just outside the box went straight to the bottom corner. Rearcross were denied a second equaliser when Declan O'Toole picked out Andy Murphy, however Dwayne Collision in the Moneygall goals saved the follow up effort. Rearcross went further behind five minutes after the re-start albeit controversially when the visitors were awarded a penalty for a tackle on the edge of the box. Tom Deveraux's penalty strike rebounded off the cross bar and back in to play clearly without a touch from any other player, the penalty taker followed up to finish the rebound to the net, the goal was allowed to stand despite protestations from Rearcross. It was downhill from here on in for a home side that struggled to get to grips with the game after this setback. Sean Sheehy produced a good save three minutes later, however Rearcross went 4-1 in arrears on the hour mark when a poor clearance from the Rearcross custodian out on the edge of the box saw Eoghan Ryan's long range effort sail to the back of the net despite the best efforts of a back peddling Robert Harrington. Moneygall were on a roll at this stage and Eoghan Ryan grabbed his second of the day with an opportunist goal. Substitute Ger Ryan copper fastened the win for the visitors late in the game with a well worked goal against a luckless Rearcross side that needed breaks that didn't come their way on the day.
